Free Childcare for Training and Learning for Work

Welcome to the Free Childcare for Training and Learning for work website. These pages are designed to provide you with information that will help you to promote and administer Free Childcare for Training and Learning for Work scheme.

This is a new scheme that will support adults (aged 20 years and over) by paying for childcare and travel costs while they are undertaking learning leading to work. The aim of the scheme is to encourage the non-working parent within a family to participate in learning or training that will help lead them into sustainable employment. Therefore, contributing to the targets to reduce child poverty by improving the longer term job prospects of families.

This scheme has been developed following the 2007 budget announcement to provide free childcare for 50,000 workless parents accessing learning leading to work.

Free Childcare for Training and Learning for Work will support learning nationally from April 2009.

2008/09 guidance for providers
The Free Childcare for Training and Learning for Work scheme guidance for providers is now available to download from the guidance 2008/09 section of the website.

The guidance sets out what providers should do to operate the scheme in their organisation and get the best from it. To access the guidance please click on the link above.

Application packs
You can now order Free Childcare for Training and Learning for Work application packs for the 2008/09 academic year. The application packs contain an application form and guidance notes, which explain how to fill in the form.

Please make sure you quote the reference LSC-P-NAT-080223 to make sure you get the correct application pack.

Application and administration seminars
During February and March 2009 we held a series of seminars to raise awareness of the scheme and to provide an end to end walkthrough of the Learner Support Service from a Childcare Provider and Learning Provider perspective.
